Sefer Torah

Sponsor The Writing of a Sefer Torah

Considered the last of 613 Mitzvah’s in the torah, we are told, is completed by writing just one letter of a new torah.

A torah must be written by a sofer, with suitable quill, suitable ink and on suitable parchment.

We have decided the minimum sponsorship for this here is $10 per person, and you can do this on behalf of each member of your family.

$10 will pay for approximately 10 words, or the cost of 1 sentence in each new torah.

If sponsored on anyone else’s behalf, for the avoidance of doubt, we recommend you state this in the section called ‘additional information’, at check out.

Although this is only for yourself, it helps confirm the processed final specific decision.

There is no maximum contribution per person.

If you wish to sponsor a whole Torah, please contact us.

We advise it is approx. $1,000 to cover direct only costs of writing one parsha for a week portion, as there are 54 parts in the torah.

Once we receive a total of $79,847 (as a maximum, intention is less depending on exact costs at the time) a new sefer torah will be written and completely made up payment fees, taxes and with dressings etc.

This reflects $1 per letter.

It is a personal guarantee underwritten by the founder that if any part of a torah is contributed to and sponsors pay for some letters through this page, a whole new sefer torah will definitely be written with your specific letters forming part.

Be sure to partake in this mitzvah at some time, sooner the better!

If you wish to sponsor a specific parsha, please add reference to your chosen wording in ‘additional information at checkout’ and we can issue a specific framed certificate for any available parsha $2,000 donation.

Each sefer torah written through this will remain in a shul in Israel, details to be confirmed.

A sefer torah seems to include;

304,805 letters

5,845 sentences

79,847 words

This means a contribution of $10 will pay for approximately 10 words, or the cost of 1 sentence.

Note exact costs can only be confirmed ats the time of completion, as we are writing one during fund raising with final details to be addressed and ongoing.

Funds from this sponsorship will only be given towards creating the torah, and as usual with up to 10% of funds allocated for administration and marketing, with no board members receiving any payment.
